Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about working as a dentist in the UK through DentalRoute.

DentalRoute is a service that guides internationally qualified dentists through the process of becoming registered and practising dentistry in the United Kingdom. We provide step-by-step support from eligibility assessment through to job placement.
The timeline varies depending on individual circumstances, but most candidates complete the process in 12–24 months. Key factors include how quickly you pass the English language exam, the ORE examination schedule, and visa processing times.
The ORE Part 1 fee is approximately £830 and Part 2 is approximately £2,950. The GDC Annual Retention Fee is £890 per year. Additional costs include English exam fees, visa fees, and other administrative expenses.
The GDC accepts both IELTS Academic (overall 7.0 with no band below 6.5) and OET (Grade B in all four components). Many dental professionals prefer OET because the test content is specific to healthcare and dentistry.
This depends on your visa status. If you are on a Student visa or other visa that permits limited work, you may be able to work part-time. However, you cannot practise as a dentist until you have full GDC registration.
The NHS Performers List is a register maintained by NHS England. You must be on this list to provide NHS dental services in England. It requires GDC registration, a DBS check, occupational health clearance, and indemnity cover.
Yes, we assist with job placement once you have completed your GDC registration. We work with dental practices across the UK who are actively looking to hire international dentists.
You can resit the ORE. There is a limit on the number of attempts, so thorough preparation is important. We can recommend ORE preparation courses and resources to help you succeed.
Pakistani dental degrees (BDS) from recognised institutions are accepted for the ORE route. You will still need to pass the ORE, English language exam, and meet all other GDC registration requirements.
You can reach us through the Contact page on our website, by emailing us, or by phone. We respond to all enquiries within 1–2 business days.
